Quartett

Music by Luca Francesconi, based on the play by Heiner Müller. Directed by Elkhanah Pulitzer, conducted by John Kennedy, set design by Chad Owens, lighting design by Jim French, costume design by Christine Crook. Produced by West Edge Opera at Craneway Conference Center, Richmond, California, August, 2018.

One large projector hung from an overhead truss provided a 17' x 13' image on an angled ramp.

Quartett is a 21st-Century work based on the 1782 novel Les Liaisons dangereuses, by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. In this production, the characters are trapped in a "No Exit" world, occasionally snapping iPhone photos to post on social media; the photos appear on the ramp, and reappear in altered form during dream sequences.

The photographs were taken by the stage director during rehearsals, and modified for incorporation into the performance projections.
